Freestyle snowmobile rider Caleb Moore has passed away following a heavy crash at the X-Games last week.
Moore was attempting a backflip when his snowmobile snagged on the edge of a landing area, sending him flying over the handlebars. His 204kg snowmobile then rolled over him.
The 26-year-old initially appeared not to be badly hurt as he was helped away from the scene of the crash, visiting a nearby hospital with a case of concussion.
However, his condition deteriorated and he was forced to undergo surgery after developing bleeding around the heart. The injury had led to complications with his brain and he passed away on Thursday.
"He will be truly missed and never forgotten," Moore's family said in a statement. "The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for all the prayers and support they have received from all the fans, friends and family around the world that Caleb has inspired."
