Happy 40th Birthday, Windsurfing!
E365> Windsurfing - Wednesday May 23 2007
E365> Perhaps it's a little bit of a marketing claim, but Star-Board.com just made a 40 year celebratory birthday announcement to one of the most underrated sports on the extreme radar: windsurfing!
Aerospace engineer Jim Drake is the guy most commonly credited with the birth of the windsurfer forty years ago under the moniker Windsurfing International. The tide then turned towards Europe, where the sport grew faster than sugar bamboo, creating the stereotypical Dutch Travelling Windsurfer, who everyone has seen tanning his buff muscles on the beach.
Now, the design has been adapted to Freeride boards, Wave boards, Freestyle boards, Slalom boards, Beginner boards and Racing longboards.
To celebrate, Star-Board.com has released the original footage of Jim Drake windsurfing! Check it out on YouTube.
