Lay Day At Bells
E365> Surfing - Sunday March 23 2008
E365 -- After assessing conditions all morning, event organisers for the Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers and the Rip Curl Womens Pro presented by Ford Fiesta have called competition off for the day, citing the small one-to-two foot (0.5 metre) waves at Bells Beach.
Stop No. 2 of 8 on the 2008 ASP Womens World Tour, the Rip Curl Womens Pro will complete competition tomorrow, the final day of the waiting period. Of the eight remaining quarterfinalists, the Rip Curl Womens Pro boasts three ASP Womens World Champions and four past winners of the ASP Womens World Tour event at Bells Beach.
"Weve called competition off for the day, but well be running expression sessions and team challenges this afternoon," Neil Ridgeway, Event Director, said. "Its a beautiful day in Victoria, but the swell isnt what we need to run World Tour heats today. We have a projected bump in swell over the evening and we will be completing the Rip Curl Womens Pro presented by Ford Fiesta tomorrow."
Running in conjunction with the Rip Curl Womens Pro, the Rip Curl Pro presented by Snickers has completed Rounds 1 and 2 of competition, and will look to run heats amidst the completion of the womens event tomorrow.
"An inconsistent new swell is expected to fill into the contest site during Monday, with a peak in size expected late in the day," Ben Matson, official Swellnet forecaster for the Rip Curl Pro, said. "Early light winds will freshen from the N/NE during the morning ahead of an afternoon sea breeze. Mondays new swell is expected to fade slowly throughout Tuesday, but winds will swing NW and freshen, creating smooth conditions at Bells Beach."
Event organisers will meet tomorrow morning at 7:30am for a possible 8am start.
