AMA Toyota MX Champs Set To Get Underway

E365 -- For the first time in four years the opening round of the 2008 AMA Toyota Motocross Championship returns to the Glen Helen Raceway Park in Southern California, right in the heart of the motocross industry, for the 13th Annual Giant RV AMA Motocross National presented by Yamaha on May 24/25.

For the last four years the venue has hosted the last race of the season, but thanks to a schedule overhaul it once again hosts the opening race.

Track designer Jody Weisel and his crew have gone all out to create a more technical course that will slow down the speed and the challenge the riders more than ever before. The changes include a new canyon section featuring saddle back twin peaks, a much longer sand section and the legendary Yamaha Hill ran in reverse.

As well as the main event there will be three extra races, including a Legends Invitational featuring past champions Jeremy McGrath, Greg Albertyn, Jeff Emig, Jeff Stanton, Steve Lamson and Jeff Ward, along with freestyle icons Mike Metzger and Brian Deegan.

An added point of interest will be the return of James Stewart to competitive racing after missing most of this season's AMA Supercross action due to a knee injury.
